At the pinnacle of architecture
More than one million guests visit the summit of the Titlis every year. This makes the mountain one of the most popular winter sports and excursion destinations in Switzerland. However, the old mountain station dating back to 1967 no longer fulfils modern requirements. The building technology also does not meet today’s environmental standards. This is why PORR is building a new station and snow groomer shed as part of a consortium with the Marti Group and Bürgi AG Alpnach. In addition, the radio tower built in the 1980s will be transformed into a spectacular viewing tower with a bar and restaurant.
Precision & Sophistication
TITLIS Bergbahnen commissioned renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron to design the extension project. The result is designs that could also serve as the backdrop for a futuristic James Bond film. We have been working on implementing this project in high alpine terrain since May 2023. This requires technical precision and a high degree of logistical sophistication from the entire team. Because the demands in this high alpine region are diverse. We have to plan everything very precisely – for example, the transport of the construction machinery and materials. The logistics have to be as efficient as possible. Added to this are the changeable weather conditions. It is a project of the century, and we are realising it with passion and pioneering spirit and in close collaboration with our partner companies. Everything will be finished in 2029. And then millions of visitors will be able to admire the new Titlis.
