Top 3: Colourful buildings
3. Kuchlbauer Tower in Abensberg, Germany
Some will immediately associate the tower with Friedensreich Hundertwasser. And they are right. At least in part. Because the artist died in 2000 during the planning phase. Peter Pelikan, the lead architect, completed his design. But Hundertwasser's handwriting is unmistakable. The unique tower was built for the Lower Bavarian brewery Kuchlbauer. Striking elements are the gilded roof ball and the colors and shapes typical of Hundertwasser. In addition, right angles have been completely avoided. In the video - an advertisement for the wheat beer of the brewery - you can also see how the tower was built.
2. Inntel Hotel in Zaandam, Netherlands
The twelve-storey Inntel Hotel in Zaandam, Netherlands, is a real eye-catcher. The exterior façade consists of almost 70 small houses. Architect Wilfried van Winden was inspired by the well-known works of Claude Monet. The varied color scheme, the wide projections and the white ridges make the complex a particularly unusual construction.
1. La Muralla Roja in Calpe, Spain
Those who have seen Squid Game may recognize this building. The Red Wall, as it is translated, was an inspiration for the successful series from South Korea. From the outside, the building looks like a massive fortress. The geometric arrangement, the high walls and the few windows are deliberate. This allows for the best possible sunlight throughout the day. The bright facade makes the building appear in a summery light. An effect that harmonizes particularly well with the sea in the background. However, you don't have to take part in a deadly game a la Squid Game to stay here overnight. Some apartments can be rented easily on Airbnb or Booking.
